Residential Application
Before applying for residency, please read the Residential Training Guidelines. Please know that if you enter residency the following will be expected: 1. to keep the 16 ethical precepts to the best of your ability. 2. to not begin a new romantic or sexual relationship for at least one year after beginning residency. 3. to not use alcohol or illegal drugs while in residency. 4. to not engage in any violence, pornography use, or sexual misconduct in the monastery or in the community. 5. to work in harmony with the rhythm of the monastery schedule and to be fully involved in all activities. During your stay you will be expected to be present for the complete schedule of meditation, work, services, and classes. 6. Chozen and Hogen Bays are the abbots of the monastery and the spiritual leaders of the community. Based on their training, experience and the authorization of the Board of Directors, they have the authority to determine the standards of practice of the monastery. This includes such things as spiritual guidance, the manner in which the kitchen is run and other aspects of daily life within the temple. Besides the abbots, others whom they designate (generally senior ordained people) may at times exercise this authority. 7. to move out, if asked to do so, by the abbots or the Residents' Committee. Please know that if you fail to honor these guidelines, you may be asked to leave. If you are concerned about unethical behavior on the part of others, we recommend you follow the procedures as specified on the Conflict Resolution page.
If you understand and accept the above guidlines, and would like to apply for residency, please e-mail info@greatvow.org and ask to receive a residential training application packet. |
