Work Practice

Zen monastic training offers traditions of discipline handed down over many centuries.

Meditative insights are applied and challenged through daily work in such areas as:

  • cooking
  • organic gardening
  • sewing
  • ceramics
  • hosting guests

There are many opportunities to surrender limitations, learn new skills, gain confidence, and find new ways to see the self in the world.

Work assignments are given after breakfast and any limiting physical conditions are taken into consideration. Participants work about thirty-three hours per week.
